Word Plugin: run-time error '453'

For the past several weeks, the Zotero Word plugin has repeatedly periodically broken for me.

When I try to use any of the Zotero functions in Word 365 on Windows 11, an error window pops up with the title "Microsoft Visual Basic" and text: "Run-time error '453': Can't find DLL entry point FindWindowA in user32."

So far, this error has occurred at least three times. The first two times, Zotero needed updates. Updating Zotero, reinstalling the Word Plugin (from the "Cite" preference menu), and restarting my computer solved the issue.

However, the issue has periodically come back, at least three times (i.e., things worked fine for a few days, and then the error starting popping up again).

Right now, I've been experiencing this error for the past three days. Zotero says no updates are available, and I've reinstalled the Word Plugin several times. Yet I can't get the Word plugin to work at all now (I just get the '453' error).

Notably, this issue occurs on both of my PCs (both of which are running the identical setup... Windows 11, Microsoft Word 365).

Is this a known issue and/or what is the solution to fix this problem?

Reinstalling Zotero or the plugin (beyond once, as an initial troubleshooting step) wouldn't make a difference here.

If this happens in a new document, this would be a problem in Word or due to some other software on your system (security software or malware). It's likely just restarting your computer that's fixing it temporarily.

If it only happens in an existing document, see Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents.
