Pasting poetry in Notes V6.0+ ?

edited May 17, 2022
Thanks to everyone who worked hard on the Zotero update!

I was wondering if there was a special tip or perhaps special dialog for copying and pasting preformatted text (eg., poetry, code) into a note in the latest versions.

I would like to paste the content into the note without the additional line spacing/breaks between lines and while preserving tabs and other spacing. (If there is no current solution, then perhaps part of the solution could be inclusion of code markdown support?)

Currently, I will paste it in and then insert line breaks as shift+enter which insert a newline that is interpreted differently than those present during pasting. As I understand it from a markdown reference referred to by 'dstillman' in a separate thread [1][2], that is analogous to inserting a <br> tag (were it still to be backed by HTML).

Below is an example:

+-----------------------------------------+
| Current pasting behavior
+-----------------------------------------+
| Before me there were no created things,
|
| Only eterne, and I eternal last.
|
| All hope abandon, ye who enter in!"
|
| These words in sombre color I beheld
|
| Written upon the summit of a gate;

| Desired pasting behavior
+-----------------------------------------+
| Before me there were no created things,
| Only eterne, and I eternal last.
| All hope abandon, ye who enter in!"
| These words in sombre color I beheld
|  Written upon the summit of a gate;
