Bibliography not populating

Hi there,

The bibliography list disappeared from my document, and I can't get it to repopulate. I'm using Zotero with Google Docs on a Macbook Air (2020)

I've tried restarting Zotero and restarting my browser. One odd behavior I'm seeing is that when I click "Add/edit bibliography," the first thing that comes up is the "Edit bibliography" editor window. Normally, I would just see {Updating} in my document as Zotero worked, with the red progress bar, and then the bibliography would appear.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.
Sara
  • Is this your dissertation or a shorter piece?
And in the edit bibliography window, do you see any signs of the cited items (they'd typically all be listed on the right so you can remove items from the bibliography)?
  • This is my full dissertation, so it has a giant bibliography. I compiled all of the chapters together, and at first the bibliography was behaving as it should, but then today I noticed that the citations were gone.

Yes, in the edit bibliography window, I do see the cited items on the right.

    Thanks so much, Adam!

  • Oh, wait a second! I found the bibliography... all of the references had jumped down to the last page of my dissertation, after my last appendix. I'm not sure what happened, but I was able to cut and paste it back where it belongs! Phew!

Apologies for the false alarm. Have a great evening.
  • FWIW, if that's an option, I'd consier moving the document to LibreOffice for the final edits with the whole thing -- that's much, much faster with large docs. (So is Word for Windows, but it's not great with large docs on Mac).

  • Thanks for that suggestion, Adam. I'll give it a try!
