Zotero Mac OS - right click, hold, select, release does not activate menu

in macOS the standard OS behaviour is that you can click and hold the mouse button to activate a menu and then move to the menu item you want to select, and on release of the mouse button it will select that item. This left click behaviour works in Zotero, but it does not work when right clicking.
