Add Citations to Google Docs by Copying and Pasting the DOI
I found Zotero's proposal interesting, mainly because it allows managing citations in Google Docs.
However, it is not possible to add citations in Google Docs using the shortcut ctrl+alt+c (which opens the "Quick Format Citation" dialog) and copying and pasting the DOI, this only worked in "Classic View". It makes the writing process slow, I think it's an important fix to apply. Also, if this search bar problem is solved, it will greatly speed up productivity for those who use DOIs to make citations faster (this is my particular case).
Additionally, when I use the shortcut ctrl+alt+c (which opens the "Quick Format Citation" dialog box), the "Progress" window opens and a loading bar appears and when I add the citation the same window appears, along with the warning "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait" in browser. So the process of adding a single quote takes around 10 seconds, 5 before I can start the search to add the quote and 5 after that. I understand that processing the citation and adding it to the document might take some time, but the processing time once I use the keyboard shortcut is weird. My intention by pressing the shortcut is for the dialog box to open instantly so that I can type in the DOI (or start searching for the article title or authors), from which point the processing time is acceptable. This sounds silly, but back in 2006, Amazon found that every 100ms in added page load time cost them 1% in sales, so I think this could be important.
I believe that by solving these problems, I will abandon Mendeley - Libreoffice in favor of Zotero - Google Docs.
Anyway, the developers are to be congratulated. The program works very well and its functions are useful and simple to use.
