Making note highlights easier

If i'm about to highlight many sections in a note, i rather have the highlight color (e.g. yellow) always on, so i can simply select the text and click the highlight button (instead of having to choose the color anew every time). is that possible?
Of course, it would be even better if we can have a Word-like option, whereby the highlight button can be chosen so that mouse-selection of a text would automatically highlight it (without needing to click the highlight button).

(I've edited the title to make it clearer that you're referring to notes. "Highlights" will generally be understood to be referring to the PDF reader.)

This is possible for highlights in the PDF reader, but it's not currently possible to lock the background-color tool on in the note editor.

I would also like to be able to lock the background-color tool on in the note editor, so that mouse-selection of a text would automatically highlight it.
