changed font formatting, Zotero and Word blocking updates

In Word for Mac I changed the quotation marks to straight quotations not Mac's "smart" quotations, which are curved. Mac and Zotero now want to block updates to any footnote that used any quotation marks in prefix or suffix comments. This prevents me from saving the Word document without blocking all future updates! For a dissertation this could force me to manually change hundreds of footnotes. Help!
