How to handle big database?

Does anyone have (long term) experience with big database for Zotero? E.g. 5 GB database and more?

What can you do to prevent very long loading times or increase performance in general?

Is there a limit for the database size or what to do if it gets too big?

    You can keep your Zotero data directory on a local disk rather than a network share.

    It's not related to the other ticket.

    This is about the original Zotero instance on a local disk with over 120000 entries and over 80000 attachment folders.
