Error for operation 'open' (Access is Denied)

Report ID: 1427485572

I'm getting this error when I run a sync. I've tried to enable full control permissions in Windows 10 on the zotero app, and on the folder itself, It's saying that it can't access the directory "c:\Users\Me\Zotero\Storage.

The folder it is referring to appears to be one that has every single PDF in it, versus just one pdf in each of the other folders.

Thanks

There's something very weird going on here — it seems to be looking for a "Zotero" folder or file within multiple attachment subfolders.

Can you 1) disable your third-party extensions and 2) provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for a sync that produces this?
  • This was probably a blunt workaround, but I simply uninstalled Zotero, deleted the entire user/Zotero folder and re-installed it and re-synced my library and this solved the issue.

I think it may have been to do with the fact that I used to have a library stored just locally, but then converted it recently to the Zotero online library? It's like it had an old folder with all my local attachments even though I'd converted them to smart links. Either way it's fixed now.
  • No, that definitely wouldn't have done it, but some plugin could've caused it. We've never seen anything like this before.
  • I've reinstalled those add-ons (Zutilo and Zotfile) as they are important to my "desktop > writing tablet for annotations > desktop" workflow and the sync is working fine now.

I should mention I was originally storing files in a Google Drive folder and using Zotfile to re-path the attachments to this folder (it copies the attachment to a folder and then re-paths it). I then realised Cloud drives are not recommended, so upgraded my Zotero storage and converted everything to smart links. The problem only occurred after this and I think this is where it happened and created a strange legacy folder of old attachments. Either way I don't think it was an issue with Zotero, but some combination of my Zotfile workflow and converting to smart links.

    Thanks for the fast response.
