Retrieve Metadata fails

If my "Retrieve Metadata" fails, is there a way to help zotero figure out what the file is, rather than just manually enter the detials?

Yes, right-click on the PDF wasn't recognized and choose Create Parent Item, and you'll be prompted to enter an identifier (DOI, ISBN, etc.).
