[Feature Suggestion] Zotero search

edited April 6, 2022
First off, Zotero is wonderful and all the auto-population features just make life so much easier! Thank you.

With the PDF reader embedded in Zotero, the whole experience just got better.
And while I support ideas such as these https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/95238/zotero-6-and-ios-feedback , I love the features already in there (Ctrl+1/2/... to switch in milliseconds & Ctrl+Shift+T to re-open tabs - what would I do without them? Probably still keep working, but it'd be just so much less comfortable.).

So, what is this actually about? We use Element as a chat platform (https://github.com/vector-im/element-web) and they recently added a Spotlight search to their interface. It's convenient and fast to navigate while not even having to use the mouse!
Being a shortcut-addicted person, I'd love to see something like this coming to Zotero. I see the value of the Advanced Search and its filters, but if I only want to open up a file with known name, it'd be so much easier with a spotlight search. And the Zoteros Word plug-in essentially is this! Except, within Zotero instead and to open pdf files directly without going into the library and opening it.
(Now that I think of it, a flag in the advanced search (to open the file instead of the library) could be the even easier solution to this. Though it is not as "smart" as the Word plug-in search bar.)

Again, I love using Zotero and cannot see me going back to my previous software.
Just putting this out here as a suggestion, because some of its concepts may already be implemented in the plug-in :)

(Of course: If this already exists, please let me know how to get there, and maybe this can help others too.)
