barcode scanner and Zotero

I understand from some brief comments in the documentation that a barcode scanner should be able to integrate with Zotero's "Add by Indicator" button. I am using OS X, I have borrowed a bluetooth scanner, but I cannot find a way to get Zotero interested in the scanner's output. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have a suggestion how to get this to work?

Zotero certainly knows nothing about barcode scanners, but I believe the idea is that you can configure the barcode scanner to be a character input device, so when you scan a barcode it's equivalent to typing it in via the keyboard (e.g., with the Add Item by Identifier dialog open). Can't help you beyond that, though.
