Arabic Text Not Italicizing

Hi,

Arabic text doesn't get italicized in LibreOffice when I use the extension to add the bibliography, and from zotero when I right-click on an item, and choose “Create Bibliography from item” and save as RTF.

This doesn’t happen when I have English text, and it doesn’t happen for other output modes in “Create Bibliography from item”.

I tried https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/italics_in_word_bibliographies, and it didn’t work.

Example RDF:
https://pastebin.com/16z69KHv

Software info:
zotero: 6.0.4
LibreOffice: 7.3.2.2 (x64) / LibreOffice Community

Thanks,
  • Do you have the italic version of that font installed on your machine?
  • Yes, I believe I have the italic version. I also tried different fonts just to be sure, and the problem still there.
  • My understanding is that italic is generally not used in Arabic typesetting, like with Chinese and Japanese typesetting. I know that the citation processor does not apply italics to Chinese or Japanese text; I don’t know about Arabic, but wouldn’t be surprised if it did the same there.

Most Arabic fonts don’t have an italic face included, so I wouldn’t be surprised if yours did not.

Either of those could produce this behavior. But in either case, I would say that this is the correct behavior, not a bug.

    Good to know that.

I would not be surprised too. I don’t have much experience in fonts.

Then, there is an inconsistent behavior in zotero, since I get italic Arabic text when I use “Create Bibliography from Item” and select Save as HTML, Copy to Clipboard, or Print.
