Zotero references in multi-chapter thesis

Looking for some assistance, thanks. I wrote my thesis in multiple chapters with end notes for each chapter. When I now edit an individual reference, Zotero populates that chapter's end notes with All the references from the entire thesis. How can this be corrected or avoided?
  • Which word processor are you using? What version? Can you reproduce this in a new document?
  • Thanks. I'm using latest version of Word. I also saw another thread that said that this is an issue with Zotero, can't process multiple chapters with individual biographies. The recommendation there (unfortunately) was to break up the document into its component chapters, update and revise each and then re-merge the document into one. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/62829/how-to-make-a-separate-bibliography-for-different-chapters-of-the-thesis-in-one-document/p1
  • If you are writing with a Note citation style (not in-text numeric), you can set Word to place the endnotes at the end of the section rather than the end of the document. This is a Word setting, not a Zotero one.

But with a long thesis document, you will get the best performance by breaking the document up into separate documents for each chapter. I recommend combining them by converting each to a PDF, then combining the PDFs, rather than doing anything to combine the documents in Word.
  • @bwiernik, thanks. That is helpful advice. Hadn't considered the pdf option.

Do remember to set the starting page number for each section appropriately (in Word) if you do that, at least if you want page numbers to run consecutively through the dissertation.
