Can the highlighting tool be used through keyboard shortcuts?

I use the highlighting tool frequently. Rather than clicking and dragging my mouse, is there a way to have the cursor visible in the PDF, press a key to start selecting text, then use the arrow keys (or space bar, etc.) to select text, then a third key to highlight the selected text?
