File Broken After Recent Update

I had a Word for Mac file open when Zotero did an automatic update a couple of days ago, and now Zotero keeps running into errors. Sometimes Zotero is working just fine, but other times in the exact same conditions it reports:

"Zotero experienced an error updating your document.
Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?"

I suspect it's a problem with the software, rather than the file. I followed all the troubleshooting instructions (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/debugging_broken_documents). The problem persists when I save the file under a different name, copy-paste into a new document, delete all possible problematic citations in turn, and even open a different file or create a new one.

Is this a known bug with the new version? And does anyone know how to fix it?
