Use of short titles in subsequent references instead of author name - AGLC4

AGLC4 question:

I am having difficulty resolving an issue with the subsequent referencing of reports. Instead of using the short title eg "Small Business Inquiry (n2)", Zotero is only using the author name "Australian Small Business and Family enterprise Ombudsman (n2)". Is there a way to resolve this?

I also see there is a workaround for the subsequent referencing of legislation and case law that involves amending code. That is a little beyond my abilities - is there an easier way?

Thanks as always.
  • 1) No; the guide is pretty open on what to use for reports -- "For secondary sources authored by a body, it may be more helpful to use a short title" isn't exactly definitive, plus reports can of course be authored by individuals, in which case the short title would be wrong (and Zotero/CSL can't tell the difference).

    2) Not clear what you mean with respect to legislation and case law? That already uses the short title. What's the problem you're trying to solve and which code solution are you referring to?
  • Thank you @adamsmith.

    1) that is a valid point - although it can become tricky when multiple reports authored by eg the Australian Government are referenced. As long as it complies with AGLC4 I am satisfied.

2). Gosh I apologise. Having now re-read the AGLC4 for subsequent referencing of legislation, I see that short title are now acceptable.

Thanks as always for your prompt responses. I will check the AGLC4 in future before asking silly questions!

  • 1) is certainly a valid question/request, there's just no way I can think of to automate the distinction. We might be able to do this in future CSL versions, but definitely not any time soon, I'm afraid.
