Import from STN to Zotero

Hi,
I am working with STN International / STNext to conduct literature searches, often in many databases simultaneously. Is anyone aware of a simple way to save STN results so that they can be imported into Zotero? From STNext I can save STN results to an xml file, but that is not supported by Zotero for import.
I can also use older STN Software (STN Express) to generate a "tagged text" file, which looks a bit simmilar to .ris, but does not have all the same field codes (does not start with TY, does not use "-" as the separator between field code and value etc...
STN Helpdesk suggested that EndNote seems to have some import filter for STN, but those seem to be separate import filter for different databases in STN, which does not help if my results are from multiple databases. And I do not want to use EndNote anyway, but preferably stay with Zotero.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
Kevin
  • Could you post the XML file and the tagged file to a site like pastebin.com and link to it from here so we can take a look?
If it's similar to something we already have, we can see about support. Otherwise, this is going to be a ton of work for something we don't get many requests for, so I'm not sure someone's going to undertake it.
  • Thanks Adam for considering my request, much appreciated. Here are two pastebins to the xml and the tagged text file:

    https://pastebin.com/P3ZpaKxU
    https://pastebin.com/H1NSyEvz

This is an example STN results set, with only 4 references. In reality I may have to deal with answersets containing several hundred references.
In an ideal world, I could import the xml into Zotero. This xml was generated from the "modern", browser based STN (STNext). The tagged text file I could only produce via a work-around using the older STN Desktop Software "STN Express", which I assume will phase out sooner or later.
  • The XML is unlike anything else we have. The Tagged format is pretty close to export from OVID databases, so that one we could do relatively easy or you can use a quick search & replace to make it work
  • Thanks Adam. I have also been in contact with the German STN Helpdesk and have spent several more hours on this, also using a trial version of EndNote etc... There seems to be no "few click" solution at the moment, which I need, since manual editing text files, also with copy/paste, or programming import filters myself is not an option. It is probably something I would expect/hope STN to do sooner or later. Free alternatives like NCBI's pubmed, or google scolar, make it very easy to transfer literature search results to Zotero or Endnote, via e.g. the .nbib or .env formats....
Thanks for your help again, but I will park this topic for the time beeing.
