Word not responding after adding/editing a citation

Whenever I add or edit a citation, Zotero adds it to the footnotes but then Word does not respond; I cannot move the cursor, nor navigate, nor add text, anything... every time. My only solution is saving the doc (which it does) and then closing and opening the file again.

    Deleting the Bibliography seemed to solve the issue. I still wonder what caused it since I prefer having the bibliography updated on the doc.

    You can absolutely have the bibliography present. That's just a troubleshooting step. If you run into trouble after adding it back, 1) let it go for a while to see if it's just taking a while and 2) if you think it's freezing permanently, continue with the rest of the steps to produce a test document you can share that reproduces the problem.
