Changing format of BetterBibTex citation keys

I apologise for being a computing idiot, but would be very grateful for some elementary help. I have loaded BetterBibTex into my Zotero. I don't like the format of the citation keys and have changed it. The new format works well for new entries in Zotero, but unfortunately, most of the works listed have the wrong, old format. I looked up instructions on how to update them, but couldn't understand them. Would some kind soul please give me very basic instructions? Thanks!
