I am using Turabian 8th ed. When I have tried to insert the last two footnotes, the numbers in both the paper and footnotes have skipped from 27 to 29 and then to 33. Plus, it will not allow me to adjust the font in the footnotes.

adamsmithFootnote numbers (and font type and size) are entirely Word functionality -- Zotero just inserts Word footnotes and has nothing to do with the numbering. You'll find a number of troubleshooting posts when you google skipped footnote numbers for Word (if memory serves, often related to track changes) -- run through those.
