Word integration has become super slow (~30 s)

Debug-ID: D727186034

Using MS Word 2016 to write my thesis and zotero usually works fine.
Some days ago I noticed that it became super slow. Editing a citation in my thesis now takes 20-30 s. (I have less than 100 citations). Complete restart of my PC did nothing...

Could someone have a look at the Debug-ID?
I'm also wondering, if the Grammarly plugin for word is responsible, but as far as I remember installing did not coincide with my problem.

Thanks a lot!
  • The Word plugin on Windows is usually very fast even with large documents and many citations. Looking at the debug log it seems that Zotero plugin is slow retrieving citations, something that it's usually very fast at, so disabling other plugins would be the first troubleshooting step to try.
  • I've disabled the grammarly plugin and nothing changed.

odd thing is, if I open a fresh document, zotero is fast as expected in this one. the other one is still open in another window
is there anything i could do to pinpoint the problem?
  • I've checked some older versions of my file and it appears that with time/length of the document zotero becomes slower, kind of linear
  • You wouldn't notice it until you had quite a few citations in a document. Zotero is retrieving 2 citations per second based from the debug log you sent us. Usually it's 50+ citations per second. It's mostly proportional to the number of citations (and to some extent would be proportional to the size of the document). It's hard to say why it's so slow on your machine, other than that we don't really get any reports from Windows users about Zotero slowness with documents of your size (or any size, really), so the problem is related to something on your computer.

It could be other word plugins interfering, security software, some general slowness of the computer or something else. You will have to troubleshoot that locally.
