Beginners unlink citation question

I've been using Zotero with Word for a very large number of citations and it has been working very reliably.

I would like to create an unlinked copy of the document with citations and a bibliography that I can modify with notes, but I want to make sure that my original document that I continue to work on remains linked to Zotero.

If I create a duplicate of a document and unlink citations, am I correct that this will not affect any of the other versions of my document that are still linked? Just want to make sure.
