Colored tags are difficult to distinguish
I have mild red-green colorblindness and the tag colors are difficult for me to distinguish. From what I read in the forums, they were designed to be better for colorblind people, but I am experiencing the opposite. (And it sounds like these colors are difficult for normal-vision people to distinguish as well...)
If we make the colors easy for colorblind people to distinguish, they will be easy for normal people to distinguish as well.
If we want to make this accessible to colorblind people, the colors should have a high level of contrast. For me (with slight colorblindness), this means: pure red, pure green, pure yellow, pure blue, pure violet, and some very light or dark variations of these. Do not include orange, because this is too similar to red/yellow. Do not include colors with a low saturation, as this makes them more difficult to distinguish. For example, colors like #B04040 are NOT good. Instead, use #FF0000.
Really, anything besides the current color situation would be great. Similar shades of green, similar shades of orange/red, and similar shades of purple/blue are NOT easy to distinguish, and that is what we currently have.
An example color palette might be:
#ff0000 - bright red
#ffff00 - bright yellow
#008800 - dark green
#77ff77 - light green
#0000ff - deep blue
#aaaaff - light blue
#00cccc - cyan
#ff00ff - magenta
#cccccc - grey

Are there specific pairs of colors you find difficult to distinguish? What is your specific form of deficiency (deuteranomoly, deuteranopia, protanopia, etc)?
In the case of the colors within Zotero, the color pairs I have trouble with are:
red/orange
light green/orange
light blue/light purple/grey
The main reason for my difficulty, for all of the above listed colors, is the low saturation and the similar value of the colors. The red, green, light blue, and light purple are all muted.
