Existing Citations won't update to new citation style in Word Doc.

Hi. I have changed the citation style (from Note to Full note, with Ibid.) in my document preferences using the Word plugin. When I refresh it does not update my existing citations to this style. If I try to do it manually with one citation I get a "zotero integration error". I would like to update all citations in several documents to this new style. Can anyone give me guidance on this?

What do you mean by "do it manually with one citation"?

Can you provide a Report ID from Zotero after getting an error?

(And you don't need to click Refresh after changing the style — you just need to choose the different style in the document preferences and click OK.)

Are the citations still linked? That is, if you click on them, is there a popup that says "Edit with Zotero"?

When I said that I "do it manually with one citation" I meant to say that when I highlight a citation and click 'add/edit' it gives me the "zotero integration error". Report ID : 1453445693

I can't tell if they are still linked but they seem to be. Even in my docs that work well, I never have a popup that says "edit with zotero" when I click on them.

Oh, sorry, I got mixed up and thought this was Google Docs. You wouldn't see "Edit with Zotero" in Word.

Well I have figured out that some of the more recently updates citations are definitely link as I can edit them via the plug-in, but others that are older are the ones that seem to not be linked and thus cannot be updated or edited. This is a document that has been shared and edited by two readers using Word...

The version of the text in this file has been heavily edited so I couldn't go back to an earlier version...
Any ideas at this point? Or do I have to manually re-do all the citations that aren't linking and updating at this point? (140 page doc.)

See Existing Citations Not Detected to determine if they're truly unlinked. That page explains how to tell for sure and the reasons for it (generally, saving the document with the wrong program or in the wrong format — it would never happen when just using .docx in Word). If they're unlinked, I'm afraid your only option would be to restore from a backup from before the operation that caused it or to reinsert them all, or to generate the bibliography from Zotero without using the plugin (e.g., if you have a collection with all the items you used).

Whatever unlinked them may also very well have broken other things to cause the error you're getting with the remaining citations.

Thank you. With the exception of a few that I had to manually re-insert the rest seem to be working.
