Zotfile Issue

I'm trying to extract .pdf highlights and notes from a .pdf document (I'm using the free Adobe Acrobat DC as my reader). When I updoad the .pdf and try to extract the highlights and notes I get this error message from Zotfile:

Attachments skipped because they are top-level items, snapshots or the file doesn't exist.

I'm not sure how to resolved this. What should I do?

PDFs need to be attached to metadata for ZotFile to do anything with them. Right-click --> Create parent item to do that.
