Sync error - entered password incorrectly

Hi,
I'm running Zotero 2.0 on multiple computers. When setting up the sync feature on one computer, I must have entered my password incorrectly (in the preferences tab, under the Sync Server section). Now, I can't seem to undo my error. Instead, I keep getting an error message from Zotero saying that it cannot connect to sync.

Suggestions?
Thanks!
  • Not sure exactly what we could tell you other than to re-enter the username and password in the Sync pane...
  • Have tried that...the error I keep getting says "Zotero cannot access your login info, likely due to a corrupted Firefox login manager database." That help?
  • OK. It's helpful to provide exact error messages you see on-screen when reporting problems (for Zotero or any other software). You also didn't quote the rest of that error message:
Close Firefox, back up and delete signons.* from your Firefox profile, and re-enter your Zotero login information in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences.
    Is that not clear?
  • OK, I'm going to reactivate this thread because I'm having the same problem. I'm using FF 15.0.1 (but I was using a previous version before, and had the same problem), and Zotero 3.0.8 (which I also updated from a previous version, but that did not resolve this problem). Every time I open Zotero, or restart my browser, I'm prompted to re-enter my master password. This only started happening about 2 weeks ago, and I didn't change anything that I'm aware of. If I click "Cancel" instead of entering my password, I get this message:

    Alert

Zotero cannot access your login information, likely due to a corrupted Firefox login manager database.

Close Firefox, back up and delete signons.* from your (null) profile, and re-enter your Zotero login information in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences.

Unfortunately, I don't know what my (null) profile is, and I don't know how to back up and delete signons from it. Could someone provide a translation from cyborg into English? It would be nice not to have to enter my master password again every time I want to use Zotero.

    Thanks!
  • PS, to clarify, my problem is not exactly the same as the one described by akaup, because I never entered the wrong password. This problem appears to have just started on its own.
  • The master password is a Firefox setting that doesn't have anything to do with Zotero (other than that it would be required before Zotero could sync).

There's no real reason to use a Firefox master password. Disable the master password in Firefox, make sure there's a password on your OS account, and use a screensaver and screen corner to lock the computer.
Unfortunately, I don't know what my (null) profile is
That would be a bug. It should say "from your Firefox profile". But the message doesn't apply if you're clicking Cancel. Zotero can't distinguish between a failed Firefox master password prompt and a corrupted Firefox login manager database.
  • Thanks, that fixed it!
