Not able to add in text citations

Hi - I am writing in google docs - and when I click on either the Z symbol or in menu Zotero to add a citation - it pops up - unable to make a connection. I have spent hours trolling through help stuff - but getting really frustrated. I have uninstalled and reinstalled - made sure I have the zotero open in order to use it whilst in google docs.. really frustrated and would greatly appreciate help.

What exactly is happening? Are you receiving an error message? If so, what’s the exact text?

It says - is Zotero running?
The Zotero connector is unable to communicate with the zotero desktop application. Zotero must be open to use web-based citing.
You can download zotero (I did) or troubleshoot the connection if necessary. (not that tech savy)
would really appreciate some help.

You'll have to follow the steps on the troubleshooting page linked from the error message. This is a problem on your computer, not in Zotero.
