Error when creating custom annotated bibliography

Hi - I've seen a couple of threads discussing adding breaks within a bibliography entry, and I go back and forth between thinking things will be easy and things being an insurmountable obstacle.

I specifically looked at https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/86101/cant-insert-a-line-break-in-csl-style where @MarcoLerim says "Inserting linebreaks within a bibliography entry is possible but can be quite messy in the visual editor because you need to set the group (on which then to apply display="block") right."

Well here I am, and I need to get through the messiness of figuring out how to set the group correctly so this works. Any help would be appreciated!

In the most general terms I am trying to have a bibliography entry where after the full entry, directly after have an annotation that begins on a new line, left justified.

Specifically, I am preparing a manuscript for a Current Opinions journal and using the standard current-opinion.csl file as a template in Visual Editor. To make it into an annotated bibliography, I tried to add text in the layout after the conditionals linking the variable "note" and display = block but then I get the following error: "Citeproc exception: citeproc-js error: Level mismatch error: wanted bib_first but found bib_other"

Here is a hastebin entry with the code that throws the error: https://www.toptal.com/developers/hastebin/qutogodewu.xml

Can anyone show me to the promised land?
