Inconsistent annotation page numbers between iOS and desktop app

edited November 28, 2021
I have a PDF that is an article from a journal. As such, the first page is labeled page 1207 in the PDF. When I highlight text on the first page using the iOS app (168), the annotation is associated with "Page 1". However, when I highlight text on the first page using the desktop app (5.0.97-beta.57+07df7d0de), the annotation is associated with "Page 1207". Since I create annotations from both apps, the annotations are associated with different sets of page numbers (1, 2, and 3 vs. 1207, 1208, 1209, etc.) depending on what app I was using at the time.

Is this already a known issue?

  • This also occurs in iOS beta 169. Has anyone else experienced this?
  • It depends on the PDF. PDFs can specify page labels, and the iOS app will use those. If a PDF doesn't do that, the Zotero desktop app is currently smarter about figuring out the page label. The iOS app doesn't yet do that, but we'll try to improve that for a future version.

It will soon be possible to adjust page labels in batch from the annotation sidebar, which will make it easier to fix things like this when they happen.
