moving my storage
Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so apologies if the topic has already been addressed.
I need to format my computer (Mac OS Catalina) to factory settings. This will involve saving a backup of my whole zotero storage to an external drive. I would like then to restore all my pdf files (which I manage through zotero) without having to manually import them one by one in zotero once it is re-installed. In the past I tried simply moving the whole storage folder, but it did not work, and I actually had to do it manually.
Is there a smarter way to do this?
thanks!

But on a Mac, you should generally just be using Time Machine, not worrying about individual programs' data. Do a Time Machine backup of your computer to an external drive, and then restore from that drive after reinstalling macOS. If for some reason that's not an option, making a full copy of your Zotero data directory will work.
I actually can't use time machine or stuff like that because it would restore also the files and folders that I need to get rid of (which are hard to locate and eliminate manually, this is why I need the hard reset)... At least this was the IT technician's suggestion.
