security certificate issue preventing syncing and MS Word add-in absent (organisational account)

have spoken with the IT people at my work but they insist this is a zotero issue, and not an issue with permissions etc

how do I fix this?

    A certificate error would be due to something they're doing to your connection. See SSL Certificate Error.

    The Word plugin is just a standard Word plugin, and is digitally signed. See Zotero Toolbar Doesn't Appear, including the manual installation steps linked from there if necessary. If the plugin is in the Word Startup folder and isn't disabled in Word, they're likely blocking it by policy.
