Is there a way to export from LibreOffice Writer to Google Docs and preserve the citations?

Thank you very much.
I also found the article on the blog but I think the blog has been dismissed in favor of the knowledge base (last post is dated 2019).
I am exporting from Google Docs to LibreOffice Writer since inserting a citation in Google Docs is too slow.

The instructions haven't changed since the blog post.
If you have a large document in Google Docs, you should make sure you're tried with "Automatically update citations" disabled before switching.

I have tried disabling "Automatically update citations" but it is still way too slow

With how many citations?
Can you provide a
Debug ID
for an operation that's slow?
