known incompatibilities with VMware Workstation?

I was running production Zotero in a Windows 10 guest VM. I uninstalled then installed 5.0.97-beta.53 to get the Mendeley importer. It ran fine until I upgraded VMware to v16.2.1 -- now it hangs and freezes my VM. I have an open ticket with VMware and posting here as an FYI.

Forgot to add that it also happens on 5.0.97-beta.55...

Can't speak to VMware Workstation, but Zotero is running fine for me in a VMware Fusion 12.2.1 Windows 10 guest. We've never had any problems running Zotero in VMware.
