Displaying titles, etc. in Chinese, Japanese 漢字, etc.

I imported a book via its ISBN. Pub date, ISBN, and other stuff written in the Latin alphabet displayed OK, but the author, title, and publisher—all written in Japanese—showed only as ������. Is there a setting I can tweak, or an add-on I can DL to get these entries to display in the original script?
