Style Error: [Modern Language Association 9th Edition]
Hello,
I am experiencing 3 problems with Zotero when using the citation style of the Modern Language Association (9th edition).
1) citing a multi-volume work
In the end reference, a multi-volume work should be cited like this:
Dickens, Charles. Oliver Twist. London, Richard Bentley, 1838, 3 vols.
(see under "A Multivolume Work" at https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_page_books.html)
However, even if you fill in "# of volumes" in Zotero, the total number of volumes does not appear in the end reference.
A short in-text reference should look like this:
(Dickens 2: 5) - meaning volume 2, page 5
(see under "Citing Multivolume Works" at https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_in_text_citations_the_basics.html)
However, with the Zotero plug-in for Microsoft Word, you can fill in either the page number or the volume number, but not both.
2) citing a republished book
A republished book should be cited like this:
Dickens, Charles. Oliver Twist. 1838. Penguin, 2012.
(see under "Republished Book" at https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_page_books.html)
However, in Zotero you can add the number of the edition, but not the original year of publication.
3) double quotation marks
When citing a journal article/dictionary entry/book section/etc., double quotation marks are used to frame the title, both in the in-text reference and in the end reference.
e.g. end reference: Jeffrey, Francis. "State and Prospects of Europe." Edinburgh Review vol. 23, no. 45, April 1814, pp. 1-40, www.proquest.com/britishperiodicals/docview/6486875/fulltextPDF/93C8A787E43E4AE6PQ/19?accountid=17215. British Periodicals Online.
in-text reference: (Jeffrey, "State and Prospects" 5)
(see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_works_cited_periodicals.html)
However, the MLA style in Zotero always seems to use single quotation marks.
Could these errors possibly be fixed in the CLS? Many many thanks in advance!

For 2, you can enter the original date if publication as
original-date: 1838
CSL styles Neill pick that up and I'm pretty sure we have it implemented in MLA
For 3, set your locale to US English in the document preferences
Problem 2 and 3 are now solved.
Thank you for being willing to look at the problem with the volumes. Do keep me updated, thanks!
