Disabling automatic capitalization using Chicago Manual Style?

How can I ensure that, when using CMS, Zotero will cite the titles of works *exactly as I have typed them in my Zotero library? -- so that if the title of a work in my Zotero library reads "The current crisis of cosmology," Zotero will cite it in my footnotes and bibliography as 'The current crisis of cosmology,' and not 'The Current Crisis of Cosmology.'

For the style as a whole, you'd need to remove text-case="title" throughout the style. General instructions here: https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles/style_editing_step-by-step

For the avoidance of doubt: headline capitalization is required by the Chicago Manual

Ok thanks. I've also learned that if you type any random character (e.g. 'x') in the 'Language' field of your Zotero Library, titles will then be cited exactly as they appear in your Zotero Library.

I would recommend against editing your data and instead editing the style to suit your needs.
