microsoft word doesnt recognise zotero

I have downloaded zotero on mac, completed the step by step, at the last stage it says "zotero word plugin has been successfully installed, but word must be restarted before it can be used. please restart word before continuing"

I have restarted word, but the zotero will not add to my microsoft word for whatever reason.

PLEASE HELP!

  • thanks!

i get as far as finding the zotero.dotm file in my computer, but when i open it it is just a blank word document.

"You can open it from the Finder by pressing Cmd-Shift-G and copying in the path. Alternatively, to navigate to it in Finder, hold down Option, click the Go menu, and select Library (which is hidden by default), and then follow the rest of the path."

this part of the instructions doesnt make sense. How do I do this when it is just a word document i can open by clicking?

    thanks

The instructions don't say to open the Zotero.dotm file. Make sure you're doing exactly what it says and no more.

Those instructions are about finding your Word startup folder in the Finder. They don't say anything about opening the .dotm file.
  • The Zotero.dotm file is in my finder already though and I have located it, so I dont understand what "path" I am meant to be copying and pasting into "Cmd-Shift-G".

  • Thank you for your help dstillman I managed to work through it! I am not very tech savvy...

The section you're reading is titled "Locating your Word Startup folder", and the path is in the first sentence.

The page is titled "Manually Installing the Zotero Word Processor Plugin", and it tells you exactly what to do for a manual installation.
