Latin names of species: lower case in titles

Chicago 17th renders both words capitalized in English titles. How can I force the second word in a Latin name to stay low case?

Found it here

Actually, the advice to use span does not seem to work for me. It also needs to combine with force italics. What am I missing?

OK, got it. Is this the only way?

This should work
<i><span class="nocase"> Amaranthus rudis</span></i>
.

Any tip on how I can do it in bulk for references that already have
<i> something </i>
tags?
Ideally, one would want to run this on a saved search that would filter out the ones that have already been corrected.
