Zotero 5.0.96.3 chooses MS Edge over system default Mozilla Firefox to open URLs

Zotero 5.0.96.3 chooses MS Edge over system default Mozilla Firefox to open URLs when I right-click on an item and choose View Online.

This is a new behavior to me.

Unfortunately, both Zotero and Windows updated this week and I cannot be certain where the problem lies. [Note : All other applications on this PC open URLs with Mozilla Firefox.]

Has anyone else seen this behavior? I am open to suggestions to cure the problem.

    I just managed to uninstall Microsoft Edge and, upon rebooting my system, the behavior is gone. I still have no idea where the problem originated.

    I am experiencing the same behaviour whith Chrome. But I wouldn't like to uninstal Edge. Is there a solution. I have looked into the long parameter list and found nothing ubviously wrong.

    I need help. It is too long to copy URL and paste then into Chrome. When it opens Edge, surfing stops rightaway.

    Zotero simply opens URLs via the OS in the default browser.

    You can try going to your Zotero profile directory, deleting mimeTypes.rdf, and restarting Zotero, which might help in some rare situations, but that generally shouldn't have any effect.
