Zotero-5.0.96.3.dmg crash on Mac with M1 chip

I downloaded Zotero-5.0.96.3.dmg to update Zotero on my Macbook Air. Mac has M1 chip, MacOS BigSur version 11.4, and MS Word version 16.52.). The previous version of Zotero was working fine.

I tried to launch the updated Zotero-5.0.96.3 app several times and it crashed immediately.

I loaded Rosetta for Word as a possible fix. It crashed immediately with Rosetta and error report listed Rosetta as a cause. After I unchecked "Open using Rosetta", Zotero now immediately crashes but doesn't give an error report.

Suggestions? Workaround?

    Upgrade to the current version of Big Sur — you're running an outdated version. (Zotero ran fine on M1 Macs on 11.4 in general, though.)

    Beyond that, you shouldn't need to do anything special. Zotero will automatically run under Rosetta, and Word should not be set to run under Rosetta.
