Word numbering doesn't account for deleted citation
I have been working on my dissertation and using Zotero and word for mac. Recently, I tried deleting a citation that I no longer needed. I made sure it was removed from my library and did not appear in the document. However, when I look at my bibliography, I notice the numbers skip as if the citation was still associated with that number
It goes:
30. Citation
32. Citation
The 31st was the deleted citation. Thought it was deleted, the numbering did not adjust to account for the deleted citation. I have tried refreshing the Zotero plugin, deleting and repasting my Zotero bibliography and looking for remaining field codes in the text for the citation, but nothing has worked. Can anyone give me some assistance with this?

adamsmithLikely a not fully deleted citation that remains hidden in the document. See step 9 here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/debugging_broken_documents for troubleshooting

JSwrigleyI mentioned above that I have already attempted to find the citation within the field codes using the option-F9 route. It was not in the field code so I am still confused as to what the problem is.

DWL-SDCAIf you closely followed @adamsmith 's recommendation and step 9 didn't help move to step 10. Pay particular attention to the text between your citation #30 and citation #32. Something in your document there (or elsewhere) is "remembering" the cite field that you think that you fully removed (but did not).
