Zotero for M1 and swap memory

Some M1 Mac users have reported concerns about how certain apps handle swap memory. Specifically, the worry is that they are writing too much to the SSD and may therefore decrease its lifespan. Although some of these concerns are a bit overstated (see Constant Geekery's video series on the topic), it does appear to be the case that certain apps are currently very write-heavy on Apple Silicon. When an M1-native version of Zotero is available, hopefully Zotero doesn't join that list!
  • This was very likely just a reporting bug that was fixed by Apple in 11.4.

In any case, Zotero is based on Firefox, so we'd have the same behavior as Firefox. It's not something we'd have control over.
