Upgrade StorageView Snapshots in firefox not the file manager (Linux)
This is for the record as I have not been able to find any mention of this problem in any forum.
Description: With Zotero standalone 5.0.96.2 installed on Linux systems Debian and Slackware using the XFCE desktop environment (and also other desktops such as i3) I have encountered that when attempting to view a locally saved snapshot of a web page by right clicking an item and "View Snapshot" instead of opening in the firefox web browser (90.0.2) the file will open in the Thunar file manager in a manner similar to as if I had selected "Show File".
On inspection of the html file properties in the Thunar file manager the "Open with" application is set to firefox.
As far as I can tell no setting exists in Zotero "Edit Preferences", "Config Editor" or the "Tools" menu to force Zotero to use firefox to view the snapshots.
Likewise /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache" is configured as text/html=mozilla-firefox.desktop.
Solution: First uninstall the Thunar file manager with a terminal command (Debian sudo apt-get --purge remove thunar , Slackware removepkg thunar) then in Zotero again select "View Snapshot" on an item. This time Zotero will present a pop up window asking you to select a program to view the snapshot. There is a button titled "Other Application" select this and provide the path to the firefox executable, in most cases it will be /usr/bin/firefox. If all goes well the next time you select "View Snapshot" the item should open automatically in a new firefox window or tab.
Reinstalation of the Thunar file manager does not alter the new setting to view snapshots correctly in the firefox web browser or to use "show file" to view the stored snapshot in Thunar.
