location of PDFs

I'm trying out Zotero for the first time and using Dropbox to sync only my PDFs (not my database file). I'm a little confused why Zotero saves PDFs in both the linked attachment base directory and the data directory. Is there a way to prevent PDFs from also storing in locally in the data directory? Since my PDFs are in the Dropbox folder, I don't need the ones in the data directory as well.

    Zotero only ever saves files to the data directory, as stored files. The linked attachment base directory setting simply determines whether linked files use relative paths from a given folder, but Zotero doesn't save things there itself.

    If you're using ZotFile to create linked files, you'd have to check the plugin settings to adjust this behavior.
