moving zotero files from dropbox folder back to default on computer

When I initially setup Zotero, I set it up using a Dropbox syncing folder on my Mac and somehow managed to get the Linked Attachment Base Directory and the Data Directory to be in the same folder. No clue how or why I did that other than I knew I didn't have space on my Mac to keep the attached files.

I have not had an issue yet using dropbox with Zotero but I have not been actively using it as much as I will be in the future. Having read some of the issues, I would like to avoid them.

Ideally, Zotero would be on my Mac while the attached files would be in the Web Library & on an external drive. Can you direct me to the correct info to make these changes?

I have stopped the Auto sync so the web library can remain intact while I make the changes and have made a copy of the dropbox folder with everything in it in a separate location so I'm not worried about losing my data or files.
  • You can use Tools → Manage Attachments → Convert Linked Files to Stored Files to move files back into the Zotero data directory as stored files. We recommend keeping the data directory in the default location on a local drive, though some people store it on an external drive without trouble. (You'd just have to be very careful to never unmount the drive while Zotero is open.)
