Zotero Storage - View PDF without Downloading

Hi everyone,

I've seen a few things kind of about this but was looking for something really direct and punctual. If I've moved all my files to Zotero storage and plan to only work with Zotero storage rather than keeping PDFs in my local hard drive, how can I open attachments without having to automatically download them to my computer?

I see that there is a new pdf reader preview (https://www.zotero.org/support/pdf_reader_preview) that may facilitate this, but some of the comments I've seen suggest I also need Zotfile (https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/88064/available-in-preview-zotero-pdf-reader-and-new-note-editor#latest) as this would be categorized as working with linked files. Any suggestions?

Thank you! I've been using my Zotero via Desktop for a long time and my computer could use the extra space :)
  • Files need to be downloaded for you to view them on your computer, one way or another, but you don't need to download all files in Zotero. Go to the Sync pane of the preferences and set it to download files as needed. Zotero will then download the files only when you open them.

An upcoming version will allow you to configure how long you'd like to store local copies of downloaded files in order to free up disk space. (If you really want to delete files in the interim, you can right-click on the attachment, go to Show File, and delete the file in your filesystem, but I'd recommend just waiting for this feature.)
