Attachments for one collection not restored to online library after using Replace Online Library

Hello, I accidentally deleted a very large collection in my local computer library. I was able to restore the collection to my computer library, complete with notes, tags, stored attachments, etc., using an export I had saved of this collection (to do this, I double-clicked my collection-name.rdf file, and everything restored to my local computer).

I then used the Replace Online Library process. This successfully restored the file structure and records to my online zotero library, but all attachments and child notes, etc. are currently missing in the online library.

I have not yet turned automatic sync back on since using the Replace Online Library function. My current file syncing is set to sync attachment files in My Library using zotero and to download files "as needed".

I don't want to turn automatic sync back on while the online library is missing all of my notes and attachments for fear that doing so will then delete those attachments from my local computer.

Have I missed a step in the Replace Online Library process that means I haven't been able to restore the attachments to the online library? Does having restored the deleted collection to my local library using the .rdf file have something to do with this? If so, is the best way to solve this problem to follow the process for replacing my local library with a backup file and then doing the Restore Online Library process again?

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

An export isn't a backup and shouldn't be used for that, and if you import an export, you don't need to use Replace Online Library at all, since it's just new data as far as Zotero is concerned.

To restore a deleted collection, you can usually restore from one of the last automatic backups. There are specific instructions there for recovering a collection that don't require using Replace Online Library. (An upcoming version of Zotero will let you restore deleted collections from the trash.)

The files thing is likely a misunderstanding — you have plenty of files in your library, but I'd guess you made an RDF export without notes or files, and those are the items you're looking at.

Anyhow, it's not totally clear what the state of your local or online database is at this point, so it's a bit hard to advise you now, but you'd want to start by restoring from an actual backup of your database — automatic or otherwise — and, given that you used Replace Online Library incorrectly from an import and likely have a bit of a mess in your online library, you'd want to actually use Replace Online Library once you're happy with the state of your local library.
