Cannot insert citation in Google Docs or Word

Hello,

Working with a grad student who was previously using the Word plugin for Zotero, using AMA with no issues. She is running High Sierra, Zotero is updated to newest version.

Her computer crashed and she had to install Word 2011. Now when she tries to insert a citation, just a footnote appears in the body of the paper. We tried inserting the citation and others into a new doc- same problem. Also tried inserting different citations in a completely new Google Doc - same problem. Clicking on the 'Show Editor' button, there is nothing but a single '1' in the box.

I thought maybe it had to do with the fact that she had been importing her citations from Google Scholar (Endnote and Refman files). We disabled the automatic import and manually added the file to Zotero. When we tried to import the citation in both Word and Google Docs, the Show Editor still shows up as '1'. The metadata for the citations does show up in the Info section on Zotero Desktop.

Not sure what the issue is here- any advice? Thank you!
  • What citation style are you using? You can check that in Word or Google Docs under Zotero -> Document Preferences.
  • @adomasven Apologies- I used an acronym. I am using American Medical Association 11th edition.
  • A superscript 1 is all you'd expect for an AMA citation. If you want the full bibliography entry corresponding to the number, add a bibliography.
