Synchronization Fails [ID:117125298]

edited March 24, 2021
Kind Zotero developers,
when I try to synchronize my library right after importing it from Mendeley, I get the following error report:

-----REPORT ID: 117125298-----

[JavaScript Error: "Error 500 for item HD85YJVU in Libreria personale:

ZoteroObjectUploadError: An error occurred"]

[extra output removed — D.S.]

[JavaScript Error: "Made no progress during upload -- stopping" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync/syncEngine.js" line: 1393}]

[JavaScript Error: "Made no progress during upload -- stopping" {file: "chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/sync/syncEngine.js" line: 1393}]

version => 5.0.97-beta.9+f690c666d, platform => MacIntel, oscpu => Intel Mac OS X 10.16

I have already tried to reset the Online library and to re-import the library from Mendeley with automatic sync off and sync manually. None of these attempts were successful.

I hope you could find a fix or suggest me how to fix the problem myself.

Thank you in advance.
  • (No need to post the error output, just the Report ID itself.)

Can you provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID) for a sync that fails?
  • Sure!
    Here it is: D1623543681

    Thanks for the help!
  • Paste "EPIYA8DN" into the Zotero search bar in All Fields & Tags mode and open that PDF.

On page 5, there's an annotation beginning with "further research" that's very long, and that's what's causing the sync error. If you delete or shorten that, it should sync. We'll try to show a better error there, but I'm curious whether that's an annotation that was imported from Mendeley or if you added it in Zotero, and if the former what it looks like in Mendeley. Do you see a huge long section highlighted? Was highlighting a section that long intentional?
  • Your guess is right, all my files were imported from Mendeley.
Plus, the annotation you are referring to is just 3 lines long. (from "further research" to "self-selected participants.") The Zotero visualizer shows it properly.
Since it doesn't seem to me to be excessively long (lots of other annotations are longer), I think you are somehow seeing it differently.
  • Click on the annotation and look at the extracted text (in the popup or sidebar, depending on whether the sidebar is open). Does that appear much longer?
  • Sadly I had already deleted it and recreated it with Zotero.
I can confirm that the sync now works like a charm!!!

Thanks so much for the assistance, super good service! So happy Mendeley pushed us, mobile users, away ... I discovered Zotero and, with this super quick response from the dev team, it looks AMAZING!
  • If you're able to share the PDF, could you email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread so we can see how this might have happened? (We have the coordinates of the highlight rectangles in the debug output, but it seems like the original extracted text somehow didn't correspond to those rectangles.)
  • We didn't receive any emails from you.
  • My bad, it was still pending.
